Hurray, St George's Tolworth is 90 years old! Celebrations are part of our lives: birthdays, graduation, passing tests and anniversaries, to name just a few. We relish these moments as we reflect on our life journeys, rejoice in our achievements and progress, and celebrate our victories.
In the early 1930s, a vision was conceived to build a church in Tolworth. That vision became a reality when St George’s Church Tolworth was built on Hamilton Avenue and dedicated in June 1934. Today, we are thrilled to be celebrating its 90th Anniversary. For nine decades, St George's has been the centre of our community, serving and sharing the love of God. As a warm and friendly congregation, we exist to worship God and serve our community. Several community groups use our church hall, and our church grounds offer space for community events, which help foster healthy community relationships. We look forward to the future with excitement and hope as we continue to offer a Christian presence and place for all in our community. On Sunday, 16th June 2024, we gather as a church to celebrate this significant milestone at our 10am Sunday service, and we would like to invite the community to join us in this celebration.x
At St George's, we value relationships and spending time together as a church family for fellowship, learning and worship. It's how the church ought to be, and we see that in the New Testament church in the book of Acts as they spend time together to encourage, support, serve and deepen fellowship with one another. We were excited to do the same at our TOGETHER Parish Weekend in May 2024.
Stefan Smart, a biblical storyteller and actor, led us through a theatrical performance of the Gospel of Mark - recreating for the modern audience what it must have been like for the first hearers of this tale. It was a full-bodied drama, enacted by a single narrator with all of Mark's character, events and layers of meaning brought startlingly to life. Bryn Haworth songwriter, guitarist, and pioneer of a rock band performed in a musical concert in the evening.
At our Sunday service our guest speaker was Stephen Abley, worship leader, evangelist & pioneer. It was a fantastic weekend of fellowship, worship, encouragement, and social time.
In March 2024 we were delighted to welcome to St George's Sunday morning service a group of thirteen students from Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry, part of Bethel Church based in Redding, California, USA. Their ministry immensely blessed our congregation as they led us in worship, teaching, prayer, and prophetic ministry. We felt God's presence powerfully during our time together. The group also did a prayer walk in our parish and prayed for the wider community. Later in the afternoon, they ministered in two other local churches in our community, where again they led worship and prayed and offered prophetic encouragement to people. We thank them for their ministry and for visiting us.
In February 2023 St George's was chosen to host the weekly online worship service from the Church of England. The service was streamed via YouTube at 9am on Sunday February 5th and you can view it here
